A dashboard that doesn't answer a management question is just data for decoration. I don't build visuals — I build management tools.

Why I combined 25 years of international management experience with data science

My career spans over two decades of international leadership — senior supply chain and management roles across the Netherlands, Russia, Czech Republic, and China. I've run P&Ls, managed warehouse-to-customer operations across borders, and sat at boardroom tables from Moscow to Amsterdam. I know firsthand which KPIs make the difference between profit and loss — not from textbooks, but from the pressure of being accountable for them.

Over all those years, I noticed a recurring pattern that frustrated me: even the best strategy fails if you don't have good, accessible data. That insight was the turning point. I decided to supplement my management experience with specialised knowledge of data analysis and Power BI.

That's why I founded Den Otter Solutions: to be the bridge between business management and data analytics that I saw missing everywhere I worked — in every country, in every industry. I translate the questions your management team asks into data models that deliver answers.

My belief is simple: a successful data implementation goes far beyond the technical aspects alone. A technically perfect dashboard is worthless if it doesn't align with the processes or if people can't use it. Because I speak both languages — business and technology — I don't just provide the numbers, but also the context and adoption within your company.

Complex data challenges require more than one perspective. For specialised technical work — data engineering, advanced visualisation, infrastructure — Den Otter Solutions works with a trusted network of professionals. This ensures that every engagement gets the right expertise, without the overhead of a large consultancy.

My mission is to give SMEs — wherever they operate — access to the management information previously reserved for large corporations. Pragmatic. People-focused. Fully remote. I don't build black boxes. I build solutions your team understands, adopts, and uses to make better decisions — whether we're in the same city or on different continents.

Background

25 years of operational experience as a foundation

Before founding Den Otter Solutions, Rob den Otter held senior management positions in supply chain and operations at international organisations — including Deloitte, Gloria Jeans and Detskiy Mir. Active across four countries on three continents, with direct responsibility for inventory management, procurement, logistics and financial reporting at director level.

That combination of hands-on management experience and a technical grounding in data analytics defines the Analytics Translator role: someone who understands what a CFO or COO actually needs, and who structures the data so the dashboard delivers exactly that. Not theoretically — but based on experience with precisely those challenges.

Den Otter Solutions works with SME businesses of 10 to 250 employees in the Netherlands and internationally, with a focus on wholesale, manufacturing, logistics and professional services.

My role

What is an Analytics Translator?

Definition

An Analytics Translator bridges the gap between business strategy and data implementation. I speak the language of management and the language of data. The result: Power BI dashboards that are not only technically correct, but that managers actually use to make better decisions.

Without the translation layer
Analyst builds what is technically possible
Management does not understand the models
Dashboards are not used
Business question is not central
With Analytics Translator
Business question drives the dashboard
Technology and context both delivered
Team adopts the dashboards
Decisions become faster and better
Approach

How I work

01
Business question first — always
Every project starts with one question: which decision needs to be made better? The dashboard follows the question — never the other way around. No data inventory, no technical kickoff. The management question comes first.
02
Fixed price, clear scope
After a free scoping call, you receive a proposal with a fixed price and a concrete delivery date. No hourly billing, no open-ended engagements, no surprises on the invoice.
03
Adoption is part of the assignment
A dashboard nobody uses is decoration. I coach the team, document the models and make sure knowledge lands in the organisation. You get a working dashboard and a team that can steer with it.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is an Analytics Translator? +
An Analytics Translator bridges the gap between business management and data technology. Den Otter Solutions translates the strategic questions your management team asks — about margins, inventory, service levels — into a technically sound data model and Power BI dashboard that delivers the answers. It's not about building technology. It's about making technology answer business questions.
Who is Den Otter Solutions for? +
SMEs that generate enough data to act on but don't have an in-house data team to turn it into management information. Typically companies with 20 to 500 employees in logistics, supply chain, food & hospitality, or care — where operational complexity outpaces the available reporting. Den Otter Solutions fills the analytical gap between the ERP system and the boardroom.
Do I need to have Power BI already? +
No. Many engagements start with a Data Start Scan — a pragmatic assessment of your current data landscape and what's possible. If Power BI is the right tool (and for most SMEs it is), Den Otter Solutions handles the full implementation: from data model to dashboard to training your team.
How long does a typical engagement take? +
A Data Start Scan takes two to three weeks. A full Power BI implementation — from data model to production dashboard — typically takes six to twelve weeks depending on the number of data sources and KPIs. Analytics as a Service runs on a monthly retainer with no fixed end date.
Can you work with companies outside the Netherlands? +
Yes — and we do. Den Otter Solutions delivers fully remote, using Power BI's cloud-native platform. Your data stays in your own Microsoft environment. We connect remotely, build in a shared workspace, and deliver via video reviews and screen recordings. Time zones are managed by arrangement. Rob den Otter has worked internationally throughout his career and is fluent in English, Dutch, and German, with working knowledge of French, Russian, and Czech.
